I live and work in Portishead near Bristol. I mainly exhibit locally in and around Bristol, though in 2005 I had a solo sculpture exhibition in the nave of Coventry Cathedral, centred around my ‘Figurehead’ sculpture which is a metaphorical piece about passion and heroism, a play on words and meanings. In August 2006 I had a solo show of ceramics and paintings at the Walcot Chapel Gallery in Bath, and I have another booked there for August 2008. I also exhibit at home in the North Somerest Arts Weeks, as well as many other venues.
I love drawing, for its own sake, and at
The Bristol Grammar School Thursday Evening Life Drawing Group I find a chance to play, experiment and explore.... while our organiser Will Stevens provides models and a venue! What an indulgence…..there is freedom for those who need it, and tuition for those who want it. We each have reasons to be there, and mysterious and unconnected lives.
In my mysterious and unconnected life I also use paint and fired clay; one of which keeps me on my toes and indulges my contradictions, while the other satisfies my thirst for the earth.
And sometimes I write poems. Full of Moon is one that I have illustrated.
Occasionally I have worked at schools (with fellow artist Helen Nock, and sometimes blacksmith Nathan Bennett, who are both based at Weston-super-Mare’s Old Town Quarry, where I, too, used to have a studio) making sculptural exhibition sites.
